DraftKings plans to make a splash in Missouri
According to a DraftKings press release, the company’s chief revenue officer, Greg Karamitis, said,
“DraftKings is built for passionate sports fans, making Missouri an exciting jurisdiction for us to enter with its rich sports culture, and several professional teams across the state. This is an incredible time of year for sports fans with NFL, NBA, NHL, college football, and college basketball all in-season, and we look forward to elevating the experience for Missouri sports fans, responsibly, with our top-rated online sportsbook.”
Per the release, the event will include ceremonial first bets from the icons, along with remarks from the Missouri Speaker of the House, Rep. Jonathan Patterson (R-Lee’s Summit).
Though DraftKings won’t have any retail locations in the state, its mobile app is widely used by bettors in other states, and the sportsbook operator is offering MO sportsbook bonuses to users who sign up both before and after the clock strikes midnight on Monday.
Legends will gather
According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame site, Gonzalez — drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 1997 draft, finished his 17-year career (including 12 in a Chiefs uniform) “as the all-time leader in catches, yards and touchdowns by a tight end.” He made the Pro Bowl an astonishing 14 times, and is a member of the NFL All-Decade Team of the 2000s.
Bruce, drafted by the Los Angeles Rams as an early second-rounder in 1994, moved with the franchise to St. Louis a season later, spending 13 seasons there. According to his page on the Pro Football Hall of Fame site, he finished with 1,024 receptions for 15,208 yards and 91 touchdowns total in his 16-year career. That was good for fifth in receptions and second in receiving yards when he retired. He was also instrumental in the Rams’ memorable Super Bowl XXXIV victory to cap off the 1999 season.
Hull, famously the son of NHL legend Bobby Hull, made a name for himself over 20 seasons in the NHL, with 11 of those playing for the St. Louis Blues. Per the Hockey Hall of Fame site, he finished with 741 goals and 650 assists, and also represented the United States in the Winter Olympics in 1998 and 2002. By getting to 50 goals in 50 games or less in two consecutive seasons, he joined an elite group that includes Wayne Gretzky, Maurice Richard, Mike Bossy and Mario Lemieux.
