PrizePicks, one of the most prominent names in daily fantasy sports, has officially entered the world of prediction markets through a new partnership with Kalshi, a federally regulated prediction market platform. The announcement marks a national expansion into real-money predictions on a wide variety of events, and Missouri bettors will be part of it, albeit with some limitations.
Launched through PrizePicks’ new federally registered subsidiary, Performance Predictions II, LLC, this product allows users to make simple yes/no predictions on everything from sports outcomes to pop culture and politics, all within the PrizePicks app. While the full range of prediction markets will be available in 38 states and Washington, D.C., not all markets are created equal, and Missouri is a prime example.
Missouri players can access “Culture Picks,” but not “Team Picks”
According to the company, Missouri residents will be able to participate in Culture Picks, which include predictions on entertainment and cultural events, such as awards shows, political elections, music, and celebrity news, like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding date. These markets are distinct from traditional sports betting and are federally regulated through the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
However, Missouri users will not have access to “Team Picks,” which involve sports-centric markets such as predicting the winner of a game, a team’s playoff chances, or season-long outcomes. Those markets remain restricted based on state-level regulatory positions.
While states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, and New York have warned licensed sportsbooks against offering prediction markets, PrizePicks’ DFS-only status in Missouri provides a more flexible (though not fully greenlit) path for innovation in the prediction space. The Missouri Gaming Commission has not yet issued guidance specific to prediction markets.
Sports betting goes live in Missouri on Dec. 1
This news comes just weeks ahead of a major milestone for Missouri gamblers: legal MO online sports betting launches statewide on December 1, with pre-registration beginning November 17. That rollout will allow Missourians to legally place traditional sports wagers online for the first time — separate from PrizePicks’ prediction market offerings.
For now, Missouri bettors looking for a new, legal way to engage with politics, pop culture, and current events can explore the new Culture Picks inside the PrizePicks app.
