Fanatics has officially announced its intention to enter the Missouri sports betting market. It has partnered with Boyd Gaming to enable the move.
This week, Fanatics announced a multi-year agreement with Boyd, which entails opening Fanatics-branded retail sportsbooks at Boyd’s Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City and Ameristar Casino Resort and Spa St. Charles, near St. Louis.
In a release, Fanatics said it intends to offer both retail and mobile Missouri sports betting.
“Fanatics plans to launch its online and retail betting products with the debut of regulated sports wagering in Missouri this December, contingent upon receipt of all required regulatory approvals.”
Deadline approaches
The release goes on to note that at the two retail sportsbooks, Fanatics will be “offering legal betting markets for all major sports, including professional and college football, basketball, hockey, baseball, tennis, soccer, golf, MMA, boxing and more.” The mobile app will be available statewide, with an anticipated Dec. 1 start date.
The deadline to apply for tethered license applications, requiring affiliation with either a Missouri-based casino or sports franchise, is Sept. 12.
The Missouri Gaming Commission will hand out up to 31 tethered licenses – 19 retail and 12 online – to applicants which so far officially includes just Fanatics and Underdog but is expected to eventually include major sports betting players like FanDuel, BetMGM. and bet365.
The commission awarded the two available untethered licenses to DraftKings and Circa Sports on Aug. 15.
FanDuel, which lost the untethered license sweepstakes, has a relationship with Boyd but announced last week that it is instead partnering with Major League Soccer franchise St. Louis City SC to fulfill its requirements.
Boyd operates successful MO casinos
In aligning with Boyd, Fanatics will place itself in two of the four highest-revenue generating casinos in Missouri.
At the end of this most recent fiscal year, the MGC reported that Ameristar St. Charles pulled in nearly $297.3 million in adjusted gross revenue for the fiscal year running from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, while its Kansas City counterpart took in close to $199.7 million in AGR during the same period.
June results presented a mirror image of those full fiscal year reports, with the Ameristar pair holding down first and fourth place in monthly AGR, whereas Hollywood Casino and River City Casino Hotel were second and third, respectively, among Missouri casinos.
When Fanatics applied in early August, it was the first to vie for both a mobile and retail license.
