While legal sports betting is more than two months away in Missouri, DraftKings is already moving ahead with online outreach to bettors, reminding them that they can begin creating accounts and moving money there starting Nov. 17.

On a splash page on the DraftKings site, the operator invites bettors in the Show Me State to “create a Missouri sports betting account on November 17” as the first in a three-step process heading toward the Dec. 1 launch date for wagering in the state.

The second step is an invitation to look around at the existing site, and the third is to start placing bets when the countdown clock on the site gets to zero.

Several betting options on tap

DraftKings Sportsbook is one of two operators that has been given the green light to offer sports betting in Missouri, by virtue of the Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) awarding it an untethered mobile license Aug. 15.

Circa Sports, the other recipient of an untethered mobile license, has not yet taken the splash page route DraftKings has to court new bettors.

Though the college football season will be all but finished by Dec. 1, Missouri bettors will be able to wager on conference championships, bowl games, and the playoffs starting Dec. 19.

The Kansas City Chiefs will have five games remaining in their season, with the NFL playoffs looming in January, culminating with Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8 in San Francisco.

MGC processing more than 1,000 applications

In the meantime, the MGC is processing more than 1,100 applications, including several Level 2 occupational licenses for workers.

BetMGM alone has applied for 300, with Penn Sports Interactive going for 227, Underdog applying for 181, and bet365 vying for 166. Other Level 2 applicants include Circa Sports with 39, Fanatics with 27, and Caesars Sportsbook with 16.

The addition of four Level 2 applications from Kambi, which provides a Turnkey Sportsbook product among its sportsbook technology services, adds credence to reports that it is aiming to be one of myriad sports betting options for Missouri players.

An additional casino has surfaced on the list: Century Casino Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri near the Kentucky border. In May, Century Casino announced a partnership with BetMGM.

Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger, co-CEOs of Century Casinos, issued a statement touting its partnership with BetMGM.

“We are excited to partner with BetMGM, a leading online sports betting and gaming entertainment company with a dynamic and innovative brand. This partnership is another step forward in leveraging our Missouri licenses and delivering premium entertainment experiences for our customers.”

By Oct. 22, the tethered licenses – up to 19 retail and 12 mobile – are expected to be awarded.
