Circa Sports – the sportsbook that surprisingly received one of the two untethered Missouri sports betting licenses – has partnered with the Kansas City Royals.
The MLB team announced the partnership on Monday, touting Circa’s “sharp odds, transparent limits, and bettor-first philosophy.”
Cullen Maxey, president of business operations for the Royals, said the partnership will benefit fans of the team.
“This partnership with Circa Sports offers more ways for them to connect with the game they love. From special events at Kauffman Stadium to unique experiences beyond the ballpark, we’re excited to work with Circa to bring new ways for fans to connect with the Royals.”
Partnership will be on display Jan. 30
The arrangement will officially debut on Jan. 30 at Kauffman Stadium for Royals Rally Casino Night. Hosted by Circa Sports, the event features 10 prize package giveaways involving the sportsbook operator’s flagship hotel, Circa Casino and Resort in Las Vegas.
Circa Sports CEO Derek Stevens said the partnership with the Royals will strengthen Circa’s ties to Missouri.
“Since launching Circa Sports in Missouri last December, we’ve grown to appreciate the local sports community – and the Kansas City Royals are at the heart of it. This partnership is about creating premium experiences around the game – from the ballpark to the sportsbook – and giving Royals fans access, energy, and a level of engagement that feels authentic to how they follow baseball.”
Circa will be integrated in the team’s marketing via “select Royals fan experiences, VIP hospitality moments, prominent signage and future promotions designed to highlight the connection between professional baseball and disciplined sports betting.”
Both untethered license-holders have partnered with teams
As an untethered license-holder, Circa Sports, along with DraftKings, was not required to partner with a professional sports team or Missouri casino to offer sports wagering when it officially launched Dec. 1.
Interestingly, both have now signed deals with sports teams. DraftKings Sportsbook partnered with the NHL’s St. Louis Blues in November.
Other partnerships include the MLB’s St. Louis Cardinals pairing up with bet365 Sportsbook and the MLS’ St. Louis City SC teaming up with FanDuel Sportsbook.
The Royals had announced a partnership with Underdog on Oct. 1, but Underdog withdrew its application for a sports wagering license just days before launch, citing a desire to focus on prediction markets.
The Kansas City Chiefs have had a longstanding marketing partnership with BetMGM Sportsbook, but that could be in jeopardy. In response to the team’s planned move to Kansas, Missouri Sen. Nick Schroer (R) introduced a bill last month that would ban the Chiefs from partnering with a Missouri sportsbook.
