As its deadline for sports betting license applications arrived on Friday, the Missouri Gaming Commission revealed that two operators expected to enter the market, BetMGM and bet365, are now officially in.
The applicants are vying for 12 online and 19 retail licenses the MGC is referring to as “tethered,” meaning the applicant must either have a relationship with a Missouri-based pro sports franchise or a Missouri casino in order to qualify.
Both BetMGM and bet365 are looking to secure online licenses, a MGC spokesperson told PlayMissouri. A casino with Penn Entertainment ties, Argosy Riverside Casino, is also new to the most recent list of operators vying for Missouri sports betting licenses.
DraftKings and Circa Sports already officially in
Earlier in the process, the state awarded its two untethered licenses to DraftKings and Circa Sports.
While those operators can also apply for tethered licenses, they have the green light to begin offering sports betting Dec. 1, when Missouri plans to launch its legal market.
Those who send an application postmarked by the Sept. 12 deadline date will be considered for licenses, the MGC said, with final decisions expected to come by Oct. 22.
All the major players have applied
Previously known sports operators vying for licenses include:
- Penn Entertainment, seeking retail licenses for Hollywood Casino & Hotel St. Louis and River City Casino & Hotel and an online license for Penn Sports Interactive, likely for ESPN Bet;
- Caesars Sportsbook, seeking retail licenses for Harrah’s Kansas City and Horseshoe St. Louis, as well as a mobile license;
- Fanatics, with plans to offer online sports betting as well as retail sports betting at Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City and Ameristar Casino Resort and Spa St. Charles via a new partnership with Boyd Gaming;
- FanDuel, which recently partnered with St. Louis City SC to enable its license bid;
- Underdog, which joined DraftKings as an early entrant in June.
Per the MGC, once operators get temporary licenses and submit internal controls, they’ll be able to take deposits from customers starting Nov. 17, two weeks ahead of the betting start date.
Two additional companies have applied for Sports Wagering Supplier’s Licenses: Kalbi, a Malta-based, self-declared “world leader in sportsbook technology, offering a comprehensive suite of products that empower some of the industry’s most prestigious sports betting brands”; and the International Betting Integrity Association, which it said provides “a highly effective anti-corruption tool that detects and reports suspicious activity on our members’ betting markets.”
