The Kansas City Chiefs skidded to a 6-11 finish to close out the 2025 NFL season, losing 14-12 to the lowly Las Vegas Raiders, 14-12, on Sunday.
Despite that, for one sportsbook in the first month of legal Missouri sports betting in the Show Me State, they were the most popular team to wager on.
According to a BetMGM Sportsbook spokesperson, the Chiefs were the most bet-on team in the state during December. What’s more, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was in the top three for prop bets.
Unsurprisingly, the NFL was the most popular sport to wager on at BetMGM Missouri last month. That included wagers made online and through its retail sportsbook at Century Casino & Hotel Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri.
BetMGM partnered with Chiefs in 2022
The Chiefs being popular for BetMGM customers in Missouri is no surprise. The Chief’s are the state’s sole NFL team, and BetMGM has been a partner of the team for more than three years.
That gave BetMGM a leg up when sports wagering finally became legal, BetMGM CRO Matt Prevost told PlayMissouri last month.
“Missouri is an attractive market, with 4.8 million adults, and home to numerous professional teams. We have a longstanding relationship with the Chiefs, so we know that at least the Kansas City market really well.”
Top game for bettors was Rams vs. Seahawks
While the Chiefs were the most popular team for Missouri bettors, none of their December games were able to crack the top three individual games getting action. Instead, those were:
- Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks, Dec. 18
- New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens, Dec. 21
- University of Miami (Florida) vs. Ohio State, Dec. 31
Bettors may have a chance at a Rams-Seahawks matchup in the upcoming NFL playoffs, with the Seahawks securing the NFC’s No. 1 seed, and the Rams qualifying for the playoffs as the No. 5 seed.
The first betting opportunity in the NFL playoffs is Saturday, with the Rams traveling to Carolina.
In the College Football Playoffs, Miami is playing Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday, while Indiana faces off against Oregon in the Peach Bowl on Friday.
On player props at BetMGM in December, Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson and New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart were the top two selections by ticket count, with the two reversing order by total handle.
