Cash games are usually the focus, with $1/$2 and $1/$3 No Limit Texas Hold’em by far the most frequent games. You’ll sometimes find games with higher stakes, and occasionally a $2/$5 Pot Limit Omaha game. The room also might have a $3/$6 fixed-limit hold’em game going (or higher, if there are players wanting to play it).
Adding to the fun are a couple of promotions to make the cash games more interesting: the bad beat jackpot (any quads that lose) and a high hand jackpot (straight flush or royal flush).
As a World Series of Poker-branded poker room, Harrah’s Kansas City also offers potential tournament action.
The poker room features no fewer than 13 large-screen TVs, or one per table, as well as free Wi-Fi and USB chargers at the tables, helping to make it a comfortable place to play.
Will sports betting come to Harrah’s Kansas City?
Missouri has yet to join the growing number of states where sports betting is legal, although it could still happen. Lawmakers have been strongly considering the possibility, and with surrounding Midwest states having already done so, it’s likely few would be surprised if legal Missouri sports betting followed suit.
If that happens, you can expect most if not all Missouri casinos to add retail sportsbooks and also to act as land-based partners to online books, should the new law allow it. For Harrah’s Kansas City, Caesars Sportsbook would be the obvious choice.
Harrah’s Kansas City amenities
The hotel at Harrah’s Kansas City features more than 400 rooms and suites in its two towers — the LV Tower and the KC Tower — the latter being nonsmoking and closer to the casino. Of course, there’s plenty else to do at Harrah’s Kansas City besides gamble.
Harrah’s Kansas City restaurants range from casual dining to more upscale options. The large Winning Streaks sports bar is a favorite social spot, with the Royal Noodle Bar and Bite & Bean also providing quick, quality fare. For those looking for something more upscale, there is Gordon Ramsay Steak, while the Laurel Lounge is open for Caesars Rewards members with higher-tier status (see below).
The Voodoo Lounge is an entertainment venue that hosts shows and concerts. The property also has conference space available as well as a banquet and wedding venue for those planning special occasions.
Caesars Rewards
As a Caesars Entertainment property, Harrah’s Kansas City Hotel and Casino participates in the Caesars Rewards loyalty program. Participants can earn both reward credits and tier credits whenever they play casino games or otherwise spend money at Caesars properties.
You can redeem reward credits at Harrah’s Kansas City and other Caesars locations in a variety of ways. You can use them for bonus bets at the casino ($1 for every 200 reward credits). They can also qualify you for discounts on hotel bookings, shopping, dining, show tickets, spa visits and more. You can even use them to buy into World Series of Poker events.
The tier credits, meanwhile, determine your tier level. The higher the tier level, the more perks you receive. Here are the thresholds for each level:
- Gold: 0 to 4,999 tier credits
- Platinum: 5,000 to 14,999 tier credits
- Diamond: 15,000 to 24,999 tier credits
- Diamond Plus: 25,000 to 74,999 tier credits
- Diamond Elite: 75,000 to 149,999 tier credits
- Seven Stars: 150,000-plus tier credits (invitation only)
Benefits include hotel discounts and free stays, dining and shopping discounts, presale access to live shows, access to various VIP perks such as special lounges and exclusive customer service, and many other rewards. Keep in mind that tier credits reset to zero every Jan. 1.
There are over 50 Caesars locations in the US and elsewhere, which means the reward credits and tier credits you earn at Harrah’s Kansas City apply at those other locations, and vice-versa.
Harrah’s Kansas City history
Located on the Missouri River, Harrah’s Kansas City first opened in 1994 as a 1,550-passenger riverboat casino with an approximate cost of $50 million to construct.
Unlike at most Missouri casinos, ownership has remained relatively steady at Harrah’s Kansas City. When Eldorado Resorts acquired Caesars Entertainment in 2019, Harrah’s Kansas City was one of the many properties in the transaction.
The property originally operated as Harrah’s North Kansas City and, in fact, continues to go by that name in certain contexts. The poker room opened in 2004 as part of what was then a significant “poker boom” in the US, with the Voodoo Lounge entertainment venue arriving shortly after.
More recently, the Winning Streaks sports bar opened in 2017, and Gordon Ramsay Steak arrived in 2019. That same year, the property underwent a three-month floor remodel and cosmetic upgrade.
