The NFL released its full schedule on May 12 with each team’s 17-game schedule for the 2022 season. The Kansas City Chiefs enter the 2022 season having won six straight AFC West titles. But the tough schedule combined with the projected strongest division in football makes the Chiefs’ challenge to repeat more difficult.

The Chiefs are going through a transition phase with personnel at noted position groups. Turnover is inevitable, but now some of the younger players need to move forward and contribute. Which players will take a leadership role and continue the positive profile and winning culture the Chiefs have created?

For fans interested in making a bet on the Chiefs, you won’t be able to do it legally in the Show-Me State, as Missouri sports betting is dead for 2022. Negotiations broke down recently between state lawmakers and interested parties with casinos not yet on board.

Chiefs best games

The Chiefs’ schedule is loaded. The AFC West has the top quartet of quarterbacks for all divisions with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Derek Carr and now Russell Wilson joining the Broncos. The games against the Chargers, Raiders and Broncos are not only the best games but among the toughest.

Games at Tampa Bay and Cincinnati along with home games against Buffalo, Tennessee and the Super Bowl champions Los Angeles Rams add the best games of the season for the Chiefs.

Chiefs toughest games

The Chiefs went 7-4 last season against teams with a winning record. Missouri sports fans are realizing the Chiefs will have to play even better in 2022 to have a chance to win the division and make the playoffs again.

The Chiefs’ first eight games of 2022 are all against teams that finished above .500 last season. Only the Colts (9-8) failed to make the playoffs from those teams after Indianapolis lost as a huge favorite in the final week at last-place Jacksonville.

Note that the AFC West plays the NFC West in 2022 – the toughest division in the NFC.

So road games at Arizona in Week 1 and at San Francisco in Week 7 are tougher, along with an AFC Championship redemption rematch in Week 13 at Cincinnati. The Chiefs also play at Tampa Bay in Week 4, and the Buccaneers are a heavy favorite to win the NFC South.

Along with the tough home and road games against AFC West rivals including a season-ending game in Las Vegas on Jan. 8, the Chiefs host the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams the weekend of Thanksgiving on Nov. 27.

The Chiefs went 5-1 in division games last season but had a pair of very close wins over the Chargers including one in overtime. All three division opponents appear improved making those games among the toughest again in 2022.

Chiefs Super Bowl and division odds plus season wins

Caesars Sportsbook has season win totals posted, and the Chiefs (10.5), Chargers (10), Broncos (10) and Raiders (8.5) make up the only division where all four teams have at least 8-wins as a season win total. Kansas City has won at least 10 games each of the past six seasons to win the division.

The Chiefs are a -240 favorite to make the playoffs, and +200 to miss the playoffs.

The Chiefs’ odds to win Super Bowl are +850  – just behind the Buffalo Bills (+700) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+800). Super Bowl LVII is on Feb. 12, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona.

The Chiefs’ odds to win the AFC are +425 – just behind the favorite Bills (+350) and in front of the Broncos (+700) and Chargers (+750).

The Chiefs are +150 to win the AFC West, while the Chargers (+220), Broncos (+275) and Raiders (+600) are all solid challengers.
